Alabama Workers’ Comp Opinion Drought: Quenching Our Readers’ Thirst with Mileage Rates and Acronym Survival Guides

Remember when we used to wake up excited about a new court opinion? Yeah, me neither. it’s been so long that the most thrilling article on our Blawg this month was “Lost in Translation: A Survival Guide to Workers’ Compensation Acronyms.”

When the thrilling thing about our Blawg articles is walking readers through whether TTD means “Totally Tired & Done” or “Temporary Total Disability,” you know the court opinions have gone into hiding.

January 2026 brought us the new “Alabama 2026 Mileage Reimbursement Rate Update”. Look, mileage calculations are critically important, but it’s not exactly headline material. Opening act at best!

Okay, so we did get one actual opinion a few weeks ago which was discussed in “Alabama Supreme Court Denies Mandamus in Co-Employee Immunity Case”. Even that had the suspense level of a snail running a marathon in January. And a very cold January at that!

Let’s be honest: our readers want articles about court opinions that concern cutting edge WC issues, but what they are getting lately is fun facts like what does PTSD stand for or why a panel of four might be like the movie, Highlander.

Hang in there, faithful readers! We may be living in a time when the most exciting thing in Alabama workers’ comp is a bump to 72.5 cents per mile but, remember, every drought eventually ends and the levy will surely break.
